Chocolate Banana Smoothie Bowl

Have you seen this photo on my insta page? If you aren’t following me, and want some more healthy #foodporn in your feed, go ahead and give me a follow! @kerrisfitkitchen ! It is also linked in my side bar 🙂

I like my smoothies THICK. So thick you can’t even drink it with a straw. Good thing is I have an easy peasy solution to that straw issue. Dump the smoothie in a bowl and use a spoon! Smoothie bowls are just so much more trendy than regular smoothies. I mean why have a boring old smoothie when you can put it in a bowl and add all the toppings??? I think you know which one you really want.

No, I’m not being a smoothie hater. I do love a good regular smoothie, especially when on the go, but smoothie bowls just take breakfast to the next level. This smoothie is almost like nice cream, but just a tiny bit thinner. This bowl also packs a protein punch with the addition of Vega Plant-Based Protein Powder. Vega really is (IMO) top of the line when it comes to plant-based protein. They have been putting great products out on the market for years. If you are looking for a place to start when it comes to plant based protein then I HIGHLY recommend checking out their products.

Anywho, this smoothie only has 4 ingredients for the base- does it get any easier than that?? Frozen bananas (do not use fresh- it wont work!), almond milk, vega vanilla protein & greens, and cocoa powder make this recipe a #winner !

You all know I am a fan of those simple foods. Nothing crazy here- you don’t need spirulina, witch hazel, or the kelp from the pacific ocean to be healthy. All you really need are simple, whole plant foods- AKA some of the cheapest foods on the planet!

Check out how thick that is. I love the texture that super ripe, frozen bananas give to smoothies. Make sure to let your bananas ripen until they have lots and lots of brown spots on them before you peel them and put them in the freezer!

Here’s exactly how I make mine! If yours doesn’t taste good then you probably messed up (kidding…but play around with the ratios to see what you like best!)

Chocolate Banana Smoothie Bowl

Prep: Yield: 1

The best thing you will ever eat.

You’ll Need…

  • 3 medium-large frozen bananas
  • 10-14 oz unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • 1 scoop vega vanilla protein & greens protein powder
  • 1.5 -2 tbsp cocoa powder

Directions

  1. Making this smoothie is super simple! Just chuck all of the ingredients into a high powered blender and blitz it up! I recommend starting with less almond milk and seeing how thick you like it. You can always add more liquid to thin it down, but it is harder to make it thicker! When it is done blending, add it to a bowl and top with whatever you choose! I topped mine with some raw oats, chia seeds, and buckinis. Coconut, strawberries, blueberries, pb2 powder, or chocolate sauce would also be great additions! This smoothie bowl also kicks ass on its own, so feel free to omit the toppings!

What are you favorite smoothie bowl toppers? Do you prefer smoothie bowls or smoothies in a glass?

Best food you have eaten all week? Mine was this obviously!
