Homemade Sea Salt Plantain Chips

I have a super simple recipe comin at ya! I recently found a new healthy snack while shopping at trader joes. Can you guess it?

I loved the plantain chips that I tried from trader joes and was shopping a few days later at my favorite grocery store and saw some plantains. I figured I would pick up a couple and make some of my own! I bought 2, but only my second batch turned out. The first batch was not nearly ripe enough. The plantain chips were basically white and had no flavor. I waited almost a week to make the second batch and they turned out perfectly!

I almost wouldn’t even call this a recipe since it was so simple! All you need is some ripe plantains, sea salt, and olive oil/ olive oil spray.

Directions:

Peel the plantain (for some reason this was very difficult- they do not peel like bananas!) and slice it very thin. If you want them to cook well and be extra crispy, make sure to slice them thin.

Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil. Make sure to do this because the plantains have a tendency to stick to the foil. I spray the aluminum foil with olive oil spray to prevent sticking. Arrange the plantain slices on the aluminum foil and then spray the tops of them with olive oil spray. You could also toss the plantain slices in olive oil if you don’t want to use the spray. I like using the spray because it keeps calories low and allows for an even spread. Then, sprinkle sea salt across the top. BAM! DONE.

Literally- this recipe will take you less than 5 minutes- even less if you can peel a plantain faster than I can.

I baked these on 350 for an hour- flipping half way through. Make sure to check on them as they cook since all ovens are different.

Have you ever tried plantain chips? What is your go-to healthy snack? My favorites are berries, apples, snap peas, almonds, & of course plantain chips!
